NEED YOUR HELP
DID YOU KNOW that since 2007 it has been illegal to catch reptiles & amphibians along public roads in Texas? That a Texas Game Warden could issue you a citation even for rescuing a reptile or amphibian from a busy street if the warden thought your intent was to capture the animal?
Cruising back country roads used to be a time-honored tradition in Texas and remains one of the best ways to observe Reptiles & Amphibians, especially in a private-lands state like Texas. Most major field guides recommend this method of finding nocturnal species of reptiles & amphibians.
HCU-TX & the Texas Reptile Breeders Association (along with other Herpetological organizations in Texas) are working with our state senators and representatives to change this bad law!
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
This fall, the most important thing that you, as an individual, can do is to make a campaign contribution to your state representative’s and senator’s campaigns, and to make this contribution on behalf of HCU-TX, the Texas Reptile Breeders Association, or even "snake hunters of Texas". Your representatives are required by law to keep a record of everyone who donates to their campaigns. IF Texas herp enthusiasts donate to their campaigns, next year when we write them ask them to vote in favor of our legislation, they will remember us, and will be more likely to be supportive of our efforts.
